What will the audience be in the mood for, other than a second weekend of Beauty and the Beast? You have two films built of television series and a new sci-fi drama starring Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal. Normally, it wouldn’t be a contest, but the Power Rangers are still immensely popular after all these years and CHiPs promises stupid comedy that has shown a tenacity at the box office. My prediction is that CHiPs crashes and burns while Power Rangers debuts fairly well, but Life will perform better than anyone expected.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This looks like a godawful attempt to cash in on a once-popular TV property
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Dumb looking retread of a not very good old TV show.
Tripp Burton (TB): No one needed a CHiPs movie, and this still looks worse than it should be.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This looks like a truly dreadful reboot of an old tv show. Really bad.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): There are a lot of interesting things in the trailer, but also a lot of uninteresting things.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like a fairly decent science-fiction, horror flick with a good cast.
Tripp Burton (TB): The trailer is great, but I have no idea how sustainable this movie is.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It’s a decent cast, but it looks mediocre at best, though aliens in outer space has been a decent genre at times.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I’ve never been a fan of the Power Rangers and this movie doesn’t look like it will change that.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Another re-boot we don’t need.
Tripp Burton (TB): I have no attachment to this franchise, and the movie isn’t making me want to start one.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The secondmost lame reboot of an old tv series debuting this week. It looks marginally better than CHiPs, but I will plan on skipping this one too.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This looks both dull and interesting.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Look s like an early contender for First Time Writer-Director prizes for this somber British family drama.
Tripp Burton (TB): The word from festivals was good, but I’ll wait for the streaming.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This British family drama might be good, or it might be too serious for its own good. It is not easy to say from the trailer.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Some funny elements pop up in the trailer, so it could be worth catching, but there’s also something that seems bland.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Quirky comedy could go either way.
Tripp Burton (TB): I’ll watch Woody Harrelson in anything, even if this doesn’t look like his best vehicle.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Woody Harrelson is a good actor, but it is hard to do a new turn on the old curmudgeon act, and the trailer makes it look like they did not succeed.
