Steven Spielberg’s had a rough run at the box office in recent years and there’s hope that this film breaks him out of his rut. Topping the second weekend of Pacific Rim: Uprising is doable, but how high above will determine whether this film continues his diminishing box office skills or turns his fate around.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Tyler Perry’s films always have better trailers than films, but this trailer doesn’t look that great, which might mean trouble. Still, Taraji P. Henson is almost worth the effort.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Tyler Perry’s thriller doesn’t look any more interesting than his comedies.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like an interesting change of pace for Tyler Perry, but I’m not going to hurry out for what looks fairly generic.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I’m not the target audience for this film, but it doesn’t look nearly as condescendng as the prior films, though it probably is.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Tired concept – the title says it all.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks dreadful.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I never read the book, so I’m not as tied to the material as I probably should be. That said, I’m hopeful that my pop culture enthusiasm will be well snuggled by the film.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Spielberg’s return to Sci-Fi might be good if it isn’t overwhelmed by CGI.
Tripp Burton (TB): I loved this book, and I can’t wait to see what Spielberg has done with it.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): If it weren’t for the cast, I don’t think I’d have much interest in the film.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Comedy with a refreshing concept looks forced in its execution.
Tripp Burton (TB): This could be entertaining, but it’s hard to tell from the trailer.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer is so stylistically off-putting, I’m surprised I gave it as high a rating as I did.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Scary looking British horror film might be one of the better ones of its ilk.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like a generic thriller.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): We’ve seen so many films like this that I can’t muster up much enthusiasm for it, even considering the cast.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Minor by-the-numbers British comedy about old people that could be a sleeper hit.
Tripp Burton (TB): This isn’t really for me, but it looks like it could be very entertaining for its target audience.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer looks fascinating and early reviews are exceptional, so it might be more interesting than I’m giving it credit for.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Iffy looking thriller that could be either surprisingly good or a complete waste of time.
Tripp Burton (TB): I loved Aaron Katz’s last film, Land Ho!, and this looks very different but still intriguing.

Wesley Lovell (WL): Andie MacDowell and Chris O’Dowd are the reasons to see this, the story not so much.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Domestic drama looks like a showcase for Andie MacDowell in her first lead role in some time.
Tripp Burton (TB): I’ve missed Andie MacDowell, and am happy to see her get a vehicle again.
