While it’s possible Avengers: Endgame makes its final appearance in the number one position, it’s also possible, it falls just enough to let one of these films top it. As much as I want to say that John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum will be that film, A Dog’s Journey also has a strong claim to take the top spot and both could top Avengers. The Sun Is Also a Star is likely to be an also-ran.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I haven’t seen the original, so my interest is modest, but a good film about the love of a dog is always welcome.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Enough with these reincarnated dog movies already!
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This just looks sad and maudlin, and mostly just a retread of the last one.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I haven’t seen any of this series yet, though I’ve heard good things about them. Halle Berry and Angelica Huston might just be the impetus I need to watch the others.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Liked the first one, didn’t like the second, won’t see the third.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This looks like a gratuitously violent film though enjoyable if that is your cup of tea. It is not really mine, nor have I seen the prequels, so I will pass.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Another teen love story has some appeal, but not a great deal of it.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Cute enough teen romance drama, but where is the substance?
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It looks like an okay love story, though nothing original.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The premise is fascinating, the trailer is less so.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Scandinavian sci-fi drama looks tedious.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The saga of a ship lost in space with lots of passengers actually looks pretty interesting, if a little low key.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): An interesting story, but the trailer looks predictable.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): After two years playing film festivals this one is eady for its close-up, but why?
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It may be a true story, but nothing about the trailer really made me want to see it.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I remember thinking this film looked interesting when I first saw the trailer, but I cannot recall enough of it, which might prove a problem.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Wistful looking Sundance prize winner seems worth a look.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer does not interest me in the film, but the early reviews are good, especially for Honor Swinton Byrne, so it is probably worth seeing.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The story has promise, but it’s a bit too similar to “Dead Man Walking” to be more appealing.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Timely account of the execution of an innocent man in Texas in 1992 could be this week’s best new film.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Of the two Texas prison love stories opening, this looks like the much better one.
