Deadpool 2 will only have a single week at the top of the box office as its easily displayed by the second non-trilogy Star Wars film. Solo: A Star Wars Story explores the past of one of the series most prominent characters, Han Solo. With Harrison Ford out of the picture in terms of the main trilogy, his age prevents him from being employed in his “origin” story. Alden Ehrenreich, who seemed like a rising talent when he starred in Beautiful Creatures and later was part of one of the most celebrated scenes of its year in the Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar!, early word is he’s quite good, which will help bolster the film’s chances at the box office.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): While I would never classify myself as a Star Wars fan, I enjoy the films and Alden Ehrenreich is all the more reason to see this.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Latest Star Wars story looks good.
Tripp Burton (TB): As a huge Star Wars fan, I don’t think I needed this film, but I’m really excited to see it!
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The reviews and the trailers are both decidedly mixed, so I am not sure that this will be that good. I was hoping for better.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It looks like a commonplace cabin-in-the-woods horror film.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Here we go again into the woods.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks brutal and dismal.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This looks like nothing new and nothing that has not been done better elsewhere.

Peter J. Patrick (PP): Chinese time travel comedy doesn’t look too good.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks intriguing, but I’m not in a rush.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The concept and the trailer are both rather fun, though I do not know where the movie will actually go.

Wesley Lovell (WL): It looks like it could be zany fun.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): This British punk comedy looks awful.
Tripp Burton (TB): The combination of Neil Gaiman and John Cameron Mitchell makes this a must see.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I quite enjoyed the trailer, but the reviews make it sound like a major misfire.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Thrillers about blind women are overly abundant and this one doesn’t look particularly interesting.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): I always find thrillers with blind heroes or heroines thrilling.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like an interesting retread of Wait Until Dark, and it’s nice to see Natalie Dormer get a juicy lead role.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer turns too confusing and violent to make a case for this thriller.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Without Elle Fanning, my interest would be precisely zero.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): This story was done twice in the 1980s to middling effect, expect the same here.
Tripp Burton (TB): This was completely off my radar, and the trailer makes it look like that is for a reason.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer is okay, but the reviews are mostly not kind and I have a feeling that they are closer to its core.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A slice of life drama that doesn’t seem terribly exciting.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Spain’s entry for last year’s Foreign Language Film looks OK but predictable.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like a very sweet film.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This true story of a six-year-old girl being sent to live with her uncle’s family may be a sweet film.

Wesley Lovell (WL): It could be more interesting than the trailer lets on.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Showcase for Julianne Nicholson could be a major art-house success.
Tripp Burton (TB): A great cast for this film.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It’s an interesting cast, though the trailer shows too many stories, but it might be a nice independent film.
