There isn’t much selection this weekend, which means Thor: Ragnarok will be taking a second tour at the top of the chart. Likely coming in second is the “anticipated” sequel to the box office hit Daddy’s Home. It’s only competition is Murder on the Orient Express, which isn’t likely to have a lot of broad appeal.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I had no interest in the original. Throw in Mel Gibson and I have next to no interest in the sequel.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like a bit of improvement on the original, but not enough of one to make a trip to the Cineplex worthwhile.
Tripp Burton (TB): Somehow, I had completely forgotten that the first film even existed. Obviously, I never bothered seeing it.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I had no interest in seeing the first one, and this sequel certainly looks painful, so I will not be seeing it.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I am an Agatha Christie fan. I love the original film. Everything about this new one is rubbing me the wrong way.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): If I can get beyond Branagh’s asinine moustache, I might actually enjoy this unnecessary remake, but that’s asking a lot.
Tripp Burton (TB): I love both the book and the original film, but this looks like an unnecessary and overly sleek remake.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I am unsure of this remake. I thoroughly enjoyed the first film, and I fear this will not be as good.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I find the trailer most fascinating and curious, making me want to see it more.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks pretty, but this was shown at Toronto, New York, and numerous other film festivals without generating much excitement.
Tripp Burton (TB): This seems like an interesting film, and Joachim Trier is always an interesting director.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A moody but interesting trailer intrigues. The mixture of homosexuality and the supernatural may make for a worthwhile film.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Martin McDonagh’s a talented man. Throw in Frances McDormand, Sam Rockwell, and Woody Harrelson and there’s lots of potential.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Black comedy with two highly acclaimed performances, only one of which is prominently displayed in the trailer, should be a huge hit.
Tripp Burton (TB): This is one of the best reviewed films of the year, and I can’t wait.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer is a bit off-putting, but everything I have heard about this film makes it sound like a fascinating small town drama with characters played to perfection by a uniformly strong cast.
