What do comic book movies and the box office have in common? The former always debuts at number one on the latter. That’s certain to be true of Justice League whose only competition is the third weekend of Thor: Ragnarok. There is nothing that could destroy the film’s chances at this point. It will be a $100 million-plus juggernaut. Wonder could debut decently, but will be no competition and The Star is sure to collapse under the weight of its terrible animation (and likely terrible reviews).

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): While I am a sucker for most comic book movies, everything about the DCEU has been a mess with a single exception. That exception doesn’t look like it’s become the new rule with this film.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman could be good if not too much of a downer and the CGI is kept to a minimum.
Tripp Burton (TB): his looks like just as much of a mess as Batman v. Superman was, and doesn’t bode well for the DCEU.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I guess I am hitting burnout on all of these superhero films. This one seems tedious in the trailer, though perhaps it will be better in person.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Not the least bit interested in a nativity story about animals behind the scenes.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Dumbed down cartoon version of the first Christmas looks tedious.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks dreadful, but my older child thinks it looks fun, so guess what I’ll probably be seeing this weekend.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Normally I like animated films, but this one look pretty weak.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This type of saccharine heavy film just doesn’t appeal to me.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): The trailer was underwhelming, but if it’s half as good as the writer-director’s Perks of a Wallflower, it should be worthwhile.
Tripp Burton (TB): This is an adorable book, and I feel like it could be a sleeper candidate this season.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It looks heartwarming, but a little too simplistic. It might be worth seeing.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer makes the film look unbelievably pointless.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Minor off-beat comedy-drama might be a pleasant time-killer.
Tripp Burton (TB): I have heard nothing about this movie until now, and that usually isn’t a great sign.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Nothing about the trailer makes me want to see this movie. I bet all will turn out well at the end.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Seems like a cheap, direct-to-video sci-fi spectacle. Not that interested.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Low budget sci-fi actioner seems might be worth a look for fans of the genre.
Tripp Burton (TB): This has the vibe of a movie that I would get sucked into on a rainy day on HBO and feel bad for spending an afternoon watching.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Aliens invade and a pair of scrappy warriors will probably figure out how to subdue them, even when none of world’s armies can.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Denzel Washington has done great work in the past, but nothing about this film seems that appealing.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Denzel Washington’s next Oscar nomination? Could be.
Tripp Burton (TB): There was a lot of buzz around this that fizzled at the festivals this fall, so I’m not sure what to make of it.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I’ve heard good things about Denzel Washington’s performance, but the trailer looks unexceptional.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It could be interesting, but the trailer is too vague.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Violent looking thriller might have enough surprises to make it worth a look.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks fine.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A few early reviews are good, but the trailer is so violent without any reason, that I really don’t feel a need to see it.
