The Thanksgiving holiday weekend is always an interesting one. With several prominent holdovers and three major new films, there should be a flood of business this week. While the second week of Fantastic Beasts should be decent, it won’t be enough to top any of the three other releases. Likely placing third place this weekend, Robin Hood can look to 2010’s version for guidance on how well it can perform. With $36 million, the Russell Crowe-starrer opened strong, but there isn’t that level of talent at the top, nor behind the camera. Fighting for second with Robin Hood, but likely coming in second, Creed II hopes to best the weekend numbers for its predecessor, which opened to $29 million three years ago. Residual love should help this film, rise above the retelling of Robin Hood for a second place finish. At the top of the weekend box office, though, should be Disney’s Ralph Breaks the Internet, the sequel to its $189 million 2012 hit, which opened to $49 million that year. With competition only from Fantastic Beasts, I suspect it could top its predecessor as well, giving it a fairly wide berth to the number one position.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I never got around to seeing the first film and the second doesn’t like it will draw me in either.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks decent enough, but how many Rocky sequels do we really need?
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Creed was an okay film, but Iโ€™m ready to be done with this franchise.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The original film was the best animated film of its year and should have won over the formulaic Brave. I’m incredibly stoked about the sequel.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Overly busy trailer makes me wonder if this will be as much fun as the original.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The first one was cute, but the critics are rating this one as very, very good.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This story has been told too many times and nothing about this latest version looks appealing.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like an awful reimagining of the classic.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I am not sure that the world needs yet another remake of the Robin Hood saga, but Hollywood thinks we do .

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): As much as the story could be interesting, the trailer was incredibly dry.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like a charming biopic with a very appealing second generation star.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The story of the creator of Pippi Longstockings has all the elements of a great biography, but the trailer did not make it seem that exciting.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailers have been hysterical and the strong reviews make it sound like a great time at the theater.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Unorthodox biography of the British queen is one of the year’s most highly anticipated films.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The first part of the trailer looks most interesting and fun, then it seems to get lost, so Iโ€™m not sure what to make of it.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The film has earned strong reviews, though it doesn’t have a lot that appeals to me at this juncture.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Trailer isn’t particularly compelling, but this did win this year’s Palme d’Or at Cannes.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This odd Japanese import is trying to be heartwarming, but Iโ€™m not sure it will succeed.
