If it weren’t for Disney’s Moana, there might be an interesting competition here between Allied, Bad Santa 2, and Rules Don’t Apply. Ultimately, though, they’ll all be crushed by Moana. I’d say that Bad Santa 2, being so far removed from its predecessor and Rules Don’t Apply not looking like a typical blockbuster, only Allied truly has a chance to shine over this Thanksgiving holiday.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The premise combined with the trailer make for a film that looks most entertaining.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Bland looking WWII espionage drama of the sort that went out of fashion decades ago.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks a little cliched, but it also looks elegant and with two attractive stars should be worth checking out.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It looks like an old-fashioned spy thriller with a good looking cast and beautiful sets and costumes, what is not to like.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The first film was surprisingly hilarious. I’m hoping the sequel can stand up well against that.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): The 2003 original was comic genius, but thirteen years later the bloom is off the rose.
Tripp Burton (TB): I love the first film, which has quickly become a Cult Christmas Classic, so I can’t wait to see them revisit the world.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I did not see the original, and this has no appeal for me whatsoever.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailers have left me cold, thought it’s Disney, so I’ll catch it. I mean, I even saw Home on the Range in theaters, so even if it were bad, it couldnโ€™t be remotely THAT bad.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Highly anticipated Disney feature from the creators of Frozen with a score co-written by Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda seems unbeatable.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like another Disney hit, who have been on a roll as of late.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I am always up for a good animated film, and this sounds like it fits the bill with fun characters and probably good songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Apart from the period Hollywood interest and the appealing leads, the film doesn’t look nearly as exciting as it did when I first saw the trailer.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Warren Beatty’s widely hyped return looks like one Howard Hughes biopic too many after Melvin and Howard and The Aviator.
Tripp Burton (TB): It is good to see Warren Beatty back in action, and you can never discount him as an interesting filmmaker at least.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Everything looks pretty in the trailer, but this take on Howard Hughes just did not seem that exciting.

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer does not impress.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Low budget thriller looks intriguing.
Tripp Burton (TB): This doesn’t really look like my cup of tea, but it could be interesting.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer tries for a David Lynch vibe, but it does not really catch it. I think I will pass on this one.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): There isn’t anything about this film that seems like it’s worth watching.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Nothing in the trailer for this pretentious looking French horror movie makes me want to see it.
Tripp Burton (TB): This seems like a well-made horror film, but I’m not going to rush out to see it
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A visually arresting trailer makes this look creepy, but gives little of the plot away.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A low-budget sci-fi film that doesn’t sound like it has a solid premise is unlikely to be worth seeing.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Low budget man vs. machine horror movie holds no interest for me.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks generic.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A rogue robot army battling marines, it does not look original or good.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): As much as people have said it’s good, the whole concept doesn’t appeal to me.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Compelling family drama with a big push from the Weinstein Company should secure this one several places on the Oscar shortlist.
Tripp Burton (TB): This should be one of our most highly competitive Oscar films this year, and it looks like it may be worthy of competing.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A lost child uses Google Earth to track down where he came from. It would sound unbelievable if it was not true, but it sounds like a good film with strong performances.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Apart from Jessica Chastain, the trailers make this look like you standard political drama.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Political thriller counter to the current climate in Washington will either bring great rewards or immediate dismissal.
Tripp Burton (TB): I love Jessica Chastain, and this looks like a great vehicle for her.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Jessica Chastain is always worth watching, but this Washington DC-set potboiler looks a little full of itself to be believable.
