Thor: Ragnarok will destroy its competition this weekend. The first film opened to a soft $65 million. The second film easily topped it with $85 million. Will there be a twenty-million jump again? I doubt it. I suspect the film will top its prior film for opening weekend, but not move too much further up the charts. It’s competition, A Bad Moms Christmas opens two days earlier, which means its opening weekend numbers will slump. The first film opened to $23 million before climbing to $113 million. I suspect both numbers will be missed, probably by wide margins.

Wesley Lovell (WL): The original movie was predictable, but entertaining. This sequel looks about as interesting as its predecessor, so could be worth watching. |

Wesley Lovell (WL): The Thor films have been my least favorite of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and although there are a lot of elements to this film that look fun and exciting, I can’t help but be cautious. |

Wesley Lovell (WL): Greta Gerwig is one of those actresses that cinephiles seem to love, but whom I haven’t yet become enamored with. She might not be a bad director, though and with Saiorse Ronan, that could be enouh. |

Wesley Lovell (WL): A lot of cineastes adore everything Richard Linklater does, but apart from the Sunrise trilogy, I just haven’t been too impressed with his work. This film looks like the worst of his efforts and that makes it even less appealing. |

Wesley Lovell (WL): I’ll admit that I’m a bit fascinated by Jeffrey Dahmer as a serial killer and it might be interesting to see more about his origins, but the Jeremy Renner version of Dahmer was already interesting enough. I’m not sure there’s enough material to delve into the subject again. |
