As we get closer to Halloween, horror flicks will become more over-present. This film seems to be leading the charge and, after such a lengthy gap, could become the weekend’s top film, though it will have to take down Sully first, which should be a strong holdover. The week’s two other new wide releases could also have a shot, though as much as the length of time since it was last seen for Blair Witch might be even more challenging for Bridget Jones’s Baby. Snowden could be popular just to see what it says, but I suspect it will be another Oliver Stone dud.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The original was a terrific film, but the sequel seemed like too much. Another sequel so long after just doesn’t seem that interesting either.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): I hate, hate, hated the original – nothing will make me watch this one – nothing.
Tripp Burton (TB): The first Blair Witch scared the living daylights out of me, and I’m not sure if I’m ready for another one.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The original wasn’t that frightening, and this doesn’t sound any better. A line from the trailer, “this looks familiar” rather covers it for me.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I don’t think anyone knows why this film exists, but it certainly doesn’t look like something I would be too interested in.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Twelve years after the last sequel, is anyone holding their breath for this? I’m not.
Tripp Burton (TB): The first Bridget Jones was a fun trifle, but I don’t think I need to revisit the character 15 years later.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It sounds like a decent sequel, but the first movie was so charming, that one wishes they had stopped there.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The subject matter is interesting, but Oliver Stone’s conspiratorial leanings donโ€™t give me much hope.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Early reviews point to this as Oliver Stone’s best film in two decades which makes it worth checking out.
Tripp Burton (TB): I love Oliver Stone, and this looks like it could be a return to form for him.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The reviews are all over the place, the music way too melodramatic, but it might prove an interesting movie. I’m just not sure if it will be good or merely pretentious.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A little bit of Rear Window, a little bit of Suburbia, and a whole lot of modern horror stylings makes this a mixed bag.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): This modern take on Hitchcock’s Rear Window looks interesting.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks like a fairly bland genre piece.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It looks like a weak psychological thriller, a bizarre mixture of Blair Witch and Snowden.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I’m interested in seeing what Lily Rabe can do in a normal, non-American Horror Story role, but this seems a bit too formulaic.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): This offbeat comedy has the potential to do for Lily Rabe’s career what An Unmarried Woman did for her mother Jill Clayburgh’s.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks on paper like it was tailor made for me, but the execution doesn’t look all that great.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A young cute teacher on a roadtrip with some students. Will something happen? I’m not sure I really care.
