You can tell it’s Memorial Day because the studios have dumped every film they have no confidence in on one weekend. Sure, it’s been a couple of weekends like that, but this one takes the case. Perhaps fans of the Transporter films are enamored enough that they’ll turn out, but I suspect it will be a bomb.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The first film had a great opening, but was crap thereafter. Nothing could get me to the theater for the sequels. The same applies now.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like another mindless actioner.
Tripp Burton (TB): I have no interest in the franchise, but it’s certainly popular enough to continue to rack-up sequels (or is this a reboot…I’m confused!)
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A reboot of a series I have never seen just does not excite me one bit. It looks like a very typical action film with very little to recommend it unless you like mindless stunts and action sequences.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It could be good. It could be bad. I won’t know until I watch it and right now, I’m not sure I want to.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Could be a decent character study.
Tripp Burton (TB): This could go one of two ways, but I’m hoping Redford continues to capture his magic from All Is Lost, albeit with an actual co-star.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Robert Redford is usually worth watching, and Nick Nolte sometimes is, but this movie sounds like it tries too hard for its laughs. The cast alone should make it worth seeing, but it is a pity they donโ€™t have a stronger film to back it up. Last yearโ€™s Wild showed us how good a movie about hiking could be, a pity this does not follow suit.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I like Chris Evans enough to maybe check it out later on video, but that’s a relatively large maybe.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Strikes me as a low energy comedy.
Tripp Burton (TB): I wasn’t really expecting a Chris Evans-directed movie, and I think I know why; he’s a bland actor, and this looks like a blandly directed film.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Chris Evans has shown some depth as an actor, but it sounds like his directorial debut leaves a lot to be desired. The trailer certainly does not make it that appealing or set it up as that different of a strangers meeting and perhaps falling in love movie.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): While I don’t mind a little bit of cheese with my films, this one looks like bargain-bin Gouda, if you can call it Gouda.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Horror comedy might have possibilities but I wouldn’t count on them.
Tripp Burton (TB): This doesn’t look too appealing to me, but it has good festival circuit buzz.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I am all in favor of humorous horror films, but this one feels like it will have used its best scenes in the trailer, and there werenโ€™t that many to start with.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It could certainly be fun in a French Black Comedy kind of way, but I’m not 100% sold on it yet.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Minor art house film should appeal to romantics.
Tripp Burton (TB): Looks like an interesting premise, but I’ll wait until it pops up on streaming somewhere.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A French film about a singer and his biggest fans sounds like it could be promising, but I do not know much about it so far.
