As the precursor awards continue unabated until Oscar night, I’m going to be providing a weekly update highlighting the films that have won and lost momentum through the precursor awards (and in some cases other outside influences).

The last week has seen very little activity with only two groups having announced by deadline. As a result, these winners and losers are a bit weak. Next week, however, will be a treasure trove of precursors five different guilds all announcing their nominations, which will give us the first real insight into what the Oscar nominees could be in some of the tougher-to-predict categories.

But, before we get into this week’s winners and losers, let’s take a look at what’s coming up this week:

Wed. 03 – Cinema Editors (Nominations) (Official)
Thu. 04 – Art Directors (Nominations) (Official)
Thu. 04 – Writers Guild (Nominations) (Official)
Fri. 05 – Academy Awards Voting Begins (Oscars) (Official)
Fri. 05 – Make-Up Artists Guild (Nominations) (Official)
Fri. 05 – Producers Guild (Nominations) (Official)
Sat. 06 – Houston Critics (Awards) (Official)
Sat. 06 – National Society Critics (Awards) (Official)
Sun. 07 – Golden Globes (Awards) (Official)
Mon. 08 – Denver Critics (Nominations) (Official)
Mon. 08 – Georgia Critics (Nominations) (Unconfirmed)
Mon. 08 – Houston Critics (Nominations) (Unconfirmed)
Mon. 08 – Austin Critics (Awards) (Official)

Big Winners

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri won the week thanks to two major accomplishments. The first was being the top nominee with the North Carolina film critics and the second being the double victory at the Online critics awards.
Get Out picked up major nominations from North Carolina, but its big win comes from the OFCS who gave it their Best Picture award.

Big Losers

I, Tonya took a beating this week thanks to its failure to win anything from the OFCS while only meriting a single nomination from North Carolina for Allison Janney.
Call Me by Your Name couldn’t muster a Best Picture nomination in North Carolina, earning only two nods from the group, though it did decently with the OFCS earning awards for Adapted Screenplay and Breakout Star for Timothรฉe Chalamet.
