With the Writers Guild of America increasingly stingy with its nominations (only to guild members and products made under a WGA contract), the precursor that seems best at predicting the Adapted Screenplay category at the Oscars is the USC Libraries and their annual Scripter Awards. Recognizing the screenwriter and the source material author, the Scripter have a lovely little gathering each year, broadcast live on the internet, that gives out an award that’s frequently in step with the Oscars’ selections.
