With seven of eight past winners matching the Oscars, USC’s award to The Big Short, paired with its WGA win, pretty much secures the film its Oscar. Things could still change as that one instance of failed selection was Up in the Air, Jason Reitman’s Best Picture contender, that ended up losing to Precious under the exact same circumstances in 2009. This could favor Brooklyn or Room at the Oscars.
