Oscilloscope Laboratories has deposited We Need to Talk About Kevin in my mailbox. This prominent indie film played at Cannes, Telluride and Toronto where it earned praise for Tilda Swinton’s performance.

We Need to Talk About Kevin

Genre: Drama
Stars: Tilda Swinton, John C. Reilly, Ezra Miller, Siobhan Fallon, Ursula Parker, Jasper Newell, Ashley Gerasimovich
Director: Lynne Ramsay
Premise: “The mother of a teenage boy who went on a high-school killing spree tries to deal with her grief – and feelings of responsibility for her child’s actions.”
Oscar Chances: The film is on track to nab Tilda Swinton her first Best Actress nomination. Her co-star John C. Reilly, having appeared in two prominent indie features this year, might earn a supporting nomination, but I’m not predicting it. The screenplay could also make an appearance, but I’m not expecting such.
Rotten Tomatoes:
88% (66 critics; as of 12/3/11)
Metacritic:
68 out of 100 (6 critics; as of 12/3/11)
