Every week, I get several press releases, screening invitations and other notifications from a handful of studio contacts. While I won’t be sharing any information regarding my screening invites, some of the press releases might be of interest to my readers, so I thought I’d start sharing them in toto with all of you. These could include new image galleries for various films or important updates to upcoming releases from various smaller studios and art house production companies.

Hyde Park International names Eric Christenson President
ASHOK AMRITRAJ’S HYDE PARK INTERNATIONAL APPOINTS ERIC CHRISTENSON AS NEW PRESIDENT
Los Angeles, CA (June 11, 2012)– Coming off a successful Cannes Film Market, Hyde Park International has announced a new executive structure with the hiring of Eric Christenson as President, overseeing the international division for Chairman and CEO Ashok Amritraj’s Los Angeles-based operation.
Christenson comes to Hyde Park International with extensive knowledge and experience in the international film marketplace, including worldwide sales and distribution, bank financing, production, and marketing. He was previously President of GK Films and Hollywood Studios International, and over his career has licensed films that represent more than 50 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture winners THE HURT LOCKER and THE DEPARTED.
“Hyde Park has a tradition as one of the top-level, global independent film companies with significant financial resources. I am honored to work with Ashok Amritraj as President of the International division,” said Christenson. “I am looking forward to aggressively building our future slate of projects.”
Current HPI Vice President John Short, along with Hyde Park’s creative team of Marc Fiorentino, Mike Dougherty, company CFO Bob Lewis and Director of Business Affairs Allen Babakhanloo will work closely with Christenson on the company’s extensive sales slate.
Amongst HPI’s significant lineup at Cannes this year was the four-quadrant family adventure MIDNIGHT SUN, the UNTITLED ELMORE LEONARD PROJECT, starring Jennifer Aniston and Dennis Quaid, ADULT WORLD, starring Emma Roberts and John Cusack, and SUNLIGHT JR., starring Naomi Watts and Matt Dillon. All of the titles garnered multimillion dollar sales from a variety of major territories worldwide.
Hyde Park’s recent releases include GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE 3D in partnership with Sony and starring Nic Cage, which has grossed over $140 million worldwide to date. Also indie favorites such as Richard Linklater’s BERNIE starring Jack Black, Matthew McConaughey, and Shirley Maclaine, the award-winning BLUE VALENTINE starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams, and the Paul Rudd comedy OUR IDIOT BROTHER.
Press Release: Sheffield Doc/Fest Announces Line-Up
SHEFF DOC/FEST OPENS FOR FIVE DAYS OF DOCS, SESSIONS, SPECIAL GUESTS AND A SNEAK PREVIEW OF A NEW FILM FROM JEREMY DELLER
Sheffield’s Doc/Fest opens today, Wednesday 13 June for its 19th consecutive year, with 120 docs and wall-to-wall sessions that will inspire, provoke and entertain in equal measure.
This year Doc/Fest welcomes a number of special guests. At the two Opening Night events indie rock band British Sea Power will perform live the soundtrack to From The Sea To The Land Beyond made by filmmaker Penny Woolcock, plus later that same evening the 70s singer-songwriter Sixto Rodriguez will attend Searching For Sugar Man. On Sunday 17 June punk poet John Cooper Clarke will attend for Essentially John Cooper Clarke while on 16 June director Julien Temple will be at the festival for his new doc Glastopia. Also on 16 June the Finnish punk band Pertti Kurikka’s Name Day will play following the screening of their film The Punk Syndrome.
On 17 June at 14.30 at the HUBS, Turner prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller will talk about how music has played a major role in his films, followed by a sneak preview of the new film The Bruce Lacey Experience directed by Deller and Nick Abrahams. This intimate portrait of the truly irrepressible Bruce Lacey – an artist, musician, robot maker, shaman and all round silly bugger, who, at the age of 85, is still living the bohemian dream, creating art and magic in a farmhouse near Norwich. Deller’s work is also part of a multi-artist exhibition: A Peculiar Form of Fiction at the Site Gallery and S1 Artspace. Also within the sessions programme, the festival welcomes BAFTA award winner Gareth Malone, last seen conducting the Military Wives at the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Concert and Michael Apted, renowned director of the 7 Up TV series. And on Friday 15 June at 12.30 at the Crucible Studio BAFTA will present the team behind the extraordinary Frozen Planet season.
Making a rare trip from their isolated mountain home in Colombia, members of the Kogi – the last indigenous tribe of the Sierra Nevada, and the subject of the Alan Eriera’s doc Aluna – are in Sheffield on 15 & 17 June to show us how to reconnect with the world we’ve been over-exploiting. Staying exploitation the festival welcomes activist Tim Pool who became an overnight online phenomenon the night Occupy Wall Street was first evicted from Zuccotti Park in New York City. His live stream marathon drew more than 20,000 simultaneous viewers and 250,000 unique visitors thoughtout the course of the day. He’ll be talking to journalist Emily Bell on Saturday 16 June at 14.15 at the Occupy Wall Street: Livestream This!
