Superhero films can’t seem to figure out how to make reboots work. This is the second franchise that’s re-booted itself after an unsuccessful reboot. If this is as good as The Incredible Hulk, then it might be worth the time.

Man of Steel

Plot Summary: A new reboot of one of the most popular 1980’s film franchises.
Release Date: June 14, 2013

Poster

Trailer

Rating: C
Commentary: The teaser will work for avid fans, but it’s lack of substance isn’t very appealing.
Rating: B-
Commentary: It’s a stylized watercolor memory, but feels too patently calculated to try and tingle the emotional core of fans of the original franchise or those who are fans only of the comics.

Oscar Chances: It’s a bit early to tell, but it’s likely to compete in only a handful of tech categories including the most likely ones of Visual Effects, Sound Mixihng and Sound Editing, plus possible mentions in Original Score and Art Direction depending on how well received it is.
