There are few directors like Baz Luhrmann who can make a film so brilliantly excessive that it’s a visual delight, regardless of whether the film has the substantive backing one would prefer. What are your favorite films that are sumptuous feasts for the eyes regardless of quality.

You’re so right. I looked at the title and skimmed the description. I’ve made lists of food scenes before, jumped on that topic, and totally missed the point.

So, here’s my feast for the eyes movies:

Big Night: The preparation and serving of the Timpano
Babette’s Feast – the feast
Tom Jones – Tom and Mrs. Waters share one sexy meal.
Ratatouille: Snob critic Anton Ego bites into the ratatouille and he’s transported back in time to his childhood.
The French Connection: Frog 1 and 2 dine on Chateaubriand and Escargot, while a freezing Popeye Doyle eats a slice of cold pizza watching them from across 1st Ave.
