Review: (#1) Tepid colors, block construction, actors posed unconvincingly. It’s a trove of failures.

(#2) A sense of place and time is important, but when it’s unconvincingly put forth, it doesn’t make things interesting.

(#3) There’s nothing very compelling about still images poorly laid out and weakly embellished.

Trailer Rating: C / C

Review: (#1) The first question I have is why would Gus Van Sant write this movie. The second question is why would they pull in actors who doesn’t seem to be able to create convincing characters, at least in the trailer. This looks like a strong candidate for a misfire.

(#2) This should be quite funny, but the way the trailer’s executed, it seems like it’s trying far too hard to stake a claim to darkly comic bona fides that it doesn’t quite deserve.

Oscar Prospects:

Never count out Gus Van Sant, but the May release may not mean it has much of a chance.
