Synopsis:

From IMDb: “Twenty-two years after the events of Jurassic Park (1993), Isla Nublar now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, as originally envisioned by John Hammond. After 10 years of operation and visitor rates declining, in order to fulfill a corporate mandate, a new attraction is created to re-spark visitor’s interest, which backfires horribly.”

Review: (#1) The teaser design will titillate all fans of the original. That doesn’t make it a great design, but it makes it an effective one. (#2) This hand-drawn design doesn’t seem to fit with what we’ve known of the franchise, but it’s attractive enough.

(#3) Dangerously face-to-face with your own creation that’s about to destroy everything you’ve worked on. It’s clever, but the degree of uncertainty that should be present between these two creatures is absent. (#4) Quite a bit less interesting than the previous, this highlights the gargantuan size of one of the dinosaurs, highlights briefly that there’s a part involved, but that’s it. (#5) Exciting? Sure. Appealing? Mostly. Rewarding? Not at all.

(#6) There’s no doubt this film is designed to create a sense of excitement and actiony goodness. This poster is evocative of that desire. However, it also is pointedly clear that the wonder of the original has been replaced by blatant, generic showmanship.

Review: (#1) If you can get past the “did they not learn their lesson the first time” element and avoid the ludicrousness of creating a new dinosaur, you might be able to recognize the potential for grand adventure. Though, you probably won’t.

(#2) While the misgivings about “lessons learned” and “new dinosaur creation” have been allayed in the new trailer, all new concerns pop up, including the cheesiness of the story line, the unnecessarily action-heavy excitement and the completely ill-fitting Chris Pratt.

Oscar Prospects:

Pencil this one in for nominations in Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing and Best Visual Effects. I doubt the film will be able to win any of them or even get considered outside of those categories, but that’s a start.
