Synopsis:

From IMDb: “A young group of German POWs are made the enemy of a nation, where they are now forced to dig up 2 million land-mines with their bare hands.”

Poster Rating: C

Review: I’m sure there’s an artistic reason for this design, but it escapes me. What is the purpose of this young man, why is he staring straight at the camera and how precisely does the background image relate to it all. If you’re familiar with the trailer or film, it might have a little more relevance, but even then it’s not terribly exciting.

Trailer Rating: B+

Review: A blend of multiple genres, this film looks like it has a great capacity for emotional resonance, pensive explorations of hate and penalty, and the interesting dynamic of children being put into harm’s way. It has everything an Oscar competitor should have, which may just translate into audience numbers.

Oscar Prospects:

The film made the shortlist for the 89th Academy Awards Foreign Language Film award, and it has a decent shot of being nominated. Winning might not be so easy, but even that’s not out of the question.
