Review: (poster #1) Calm debauchery with havoc breaking out in the background. Leonardo DiCaprio front-and-center will help with sales and those interested in the hijinks behind him will be equally impressed.

(poster #2) This design is more simple, but more symbolically evokes the film’s themes without requiring visual stunts and images.

(poster #3 & #4) The third and fourth designs are departures from the first, but lack the even demeanor of the first design and make the film seem less interesting as a result.

Review: What cineaste doesn’t like Martin Scorsese? Yet, something about this populist-leaning film doesn’t feel like it’s up to the Scorsese standard and this may be the first Scorsese film that I have almost no interest in watching and will probably wait until it racks up Oscar nominations to catch it.

We now have a better understanding what makes Scorsese’s new film so long. This is a story about the start of a major corporation from the humble workings of a warehouse to a major moneymaker along with all the pitfalls and corruption that go along. This is definitely more in Scorsese’s wheelhouse than the first design let on, which makes it look more interesting, though not intensely interesting.

Oscar Prospects:

Martin Scorsese is one of the few directors whose each project is an Oscar contender. This one looks to be no different with Leonardo DiCaprio on track for another Oscar nomination and Matthew McConaughey possibly heading towards a victory among many other possible nominations.
