Synopsis:

From IMDb: “In 1967, a young Beijing student, Chen Zhen, is sent to live among the nomadic herdsmen of Inner Mongolia. Caught between the advance of civilization from the south and the nomads’ traditional enemies – the marauding wolves – to the north; humans and animals, residents and invaders alike, struggle to find their true place in the world.”

Poster Rating: C / C+ / C

Review: (#1) A beautiful landscape, but a dreary design. You want something more genuine and breathtaking and perhaps more closely oriented to the plot. (#2) Like the first design, this one goes for the beauty of the background, which also gives the poster its colorful joy. It’s still leaving out the film’s premise. (#3) This does better at tackling the narrative components, but it’s also feels a tad generic.

Trailer Rating: B-

Review: The trailer starts off fairly slow, but then shifts into overdrive for a narrative that doesn’t warrant it, at least according to the trailer. It’s one of those movies that might seem interesting when the excess is peeled away, but when presented like this, interest is quickly lost.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
