With only one film centered on a male demographic and a popular precursor to bolster it’s numbers, The Expendables 2 should do quite well this weekend.

Consensus

Below is a list of what we have come to a general consensus on. The number in parens represents the percentage of our contributors who agree with the statement.

The Expendables 2: It’s not our kind of film, but if you’re a fan, you might as well.
The Odd Life of Timothy Green: It could be a bit of a charmer, we aren’t sure yet.
ParaNorman: Another potential entertaining film for family audiences.
Sparkle: Unless you have an intense desire to catch Whitney Houston’s final performance, this probably isn’t going to appeal.
Cosmopolis: Wide audiences aren’t going to find a Robert Pattinson they want to see in this.

Having a cast filled with actors whom I can’t stand is an easy excuse for me to avoid it.

Thoughts

Haven’t see the first, have no plans to see the second.

Thoughts

Neither Oscar nor I caught up with the first one, and I doubt either of us will this time either.

It looks a bit charming, though may be filled with plenty of schmaltz. I would let it hit DVD first.

Thoughts

Disney family film looks like it might be fun.

Thoughts

The kind of cute Disney film that Oscar tends to ignore.

Having waited too long to see Coraline, I’d be remiss to wait long on this one. The makers have created something that looks on the same level, which should be interesting.

Thoughts

Interesting looking animated feature may be a surprise hit.

Thoughts

An outside contender for a Best Animated Feature nomination, but it needs a huge box office or great reviews.

I’ve already seen the film. It was called Dreamgirls.

Thoughts

I couldn’t get through the original so I won’t attempt to sit through the remake, but couuld be an Oscar contender for Costumes and Makeup.

Thoughts

Whitney Houston’s last film may get a box office boost, but that won’t put it on Oscar’s radar.

Thoughts

The director might matter if the lead performance didn’t look so unappealing in the trailer.

Thoughts

David Croneneberg films always have something for someone so one never knows.

Thoughts

Negative reviews from Cannes haven’t put this completely at rest, but it has an uphill battle Oscar-wise.
