There are no other wide releases, so this film wins by default. It will finish in the top ten, but I doubt the top five is within reach, controversy aside.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Ridley Scott hasn’t done great work in two decades and this film looks rather tepid.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Gripping story, the director at his peak, and the most amazing actor switch in history make it a must-see.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Ridley Scott did a canny act by re-shooting all the scenes that Kevin Spacey had done with Christopher Plummer now filling in. Everyone will pay attention to this movie now, and it could be a good one.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Apart from Annette Bening and Jamie Bell, there isn’t much to this film that looks interesting.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Annette Bening as Gloria Grahame and Jamie Bell as her last lover are a film lover’s dream team.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Films about movie stars usually intrigue me, but this one now seems to be flying under the radar. Annette Bening originally sounded like a lock for a nomination, but now it seems unlikely.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A terror drama that could prove most fitting for our day and age.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): The underrated Diane Kruger in an Oscar-caliber role in an overcrowded year should still be seen.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): What first looks like an intriguing film starts to devolve into a revenge fantasy, so I am not sure what it will be. Diane Kruger is said to be superb.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I like Jessica Chastain. I like Idris Elba. I like Aaron Sorkin. Yet, these factors don’t quite overcome a less than compelling trailer.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Jessica Chastain in another near-miss Oscar-caliber performance.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Although the trailer did not really make me want to see it, I have always liked Aaron Sorkin’s writing so am intrigued. Jessica Chastain has gotten great reviews for the film, but I wonder if she will just miss being a nominee again.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): As much as I love Paul Thomas Anderson, something about this film puts me off and I can’t quite put my finger on it.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Daniel Day-Lewis’ alleged final film for his There Will Be Blood director is a must-see.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I would like to be more excited by this film featuring perhaps Daniel Day Lewis’ final performance, but I have had such mixed reactions to director Paul Thomas Anderson’s films in the past that I do not know what to expect. Hopefully it will be good.
