A second week at the top of the charts is expected for Guardians of the Galaxy, but second place will come down to a fight between Guy Ritchie’s latest derivation on the period literary drama and the return of Amy Schumer and long out-of-the-business Goldie Hawn. Neither film sports a truly great trailer, so it all comes down to what people are looking for Guardians features most of the same genres as both with Snatched being a more raucous comedy and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword being a more violent drama. All things considered, the trailer for Snatched just doesn’t look appealing enough to make it a huge hit whereas the King Arthur trailer at least promises the kind of action and visuals that made Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes a hit.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I’ll admit that it doesn’t look half bad. It doesn’t look half good either, so it’s probably not worth the effort, but I might check it out somewhere down the road.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Guy Ritchie’s take on classics is not my cup of tea.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks completely unnecessary and unenjoyable.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I’m really dubious about this film. Guy Ritchie is not my favorite director and the trailer did not interest me much at all.

Wesley Lovell (WL): As much as I like Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn, this formulaic comedy just doesn’t have tha ppeal it needs
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Quirky comedy could go either way.
Tripp Burton (TB): Amy Schumer’s last film was surprisingly enjoyable, so I’m looking forward to checking out this combination.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A good cast wasted in a bad sitcom of a film. Hopefully it is not painful, but it certainly does not look funny.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): While the film certainly looks fun, the time it’s taken to release state-side suggest it may not be that good.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Early reviews for Monty Python-inspired sci-fi comedy aren’t good.
Tripp Burton (TB): Monty Python plus Simon Pegg seems like gold, but it scares me that I have heard so little about this film.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Wow this looks bad. With the combined talents of the Monty Python clan and Simon Pegg, it looks like they came up with the lowest of possible denominators for this film. Pity.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer is too confuing and it’s impossible to decide just how much the film will be interesting and how much it will be awful.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Psychological horror film looks better than most.
Tripp Burton (TB): I can never keep up with all of the horror films that come out every year, so this one will probably fall by the wayside, even if it looks interesting.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It has a somewhat atmospheric though slightly silly trailer, but horror films are just not my thing, so I will pass.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): There is little in this film that appeals to me.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): East L.A. street drama doesn’t look particularly engaging.
Tripp Burton (TB): Another film that has completely flown under my radar, although this looks like for good reason.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer gave no concept of what this film is about, so I can’t imagine wanting to see it based on that.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Apart from seeing Cate Blanchett take on so many disparate roles, the film has a very meager vibe to it.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Cate Blanchett delivering various monologues can’t be all bad.
Tripp Burton (TB): I’m usually not as big of a Cate Blanchett fan as most people, but this looks very interesting for her work if nothing else.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A weird trailer does the film no favors, but reading about it does make it sound like an interesting piece.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This romantic drama has some appealing actors, but that isn’t always enough to mak a film good.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Talky romantic comedy/drama looks like a bore.
Tripp Burton (TB): As far as I know, Eleanor Coppola has never made a narrative feature, but her documentaries are fantastic and I’d be curious if she has the skills of her husband and daughter.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It looks charming, though slight, and boasts a nice performance by Diane Lane as a woman who gets sidetracked on the way to Paris by food, wine, and a playful Frenchman. It’s probably not deep, but should be fun to watch.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer was tense and intriguing, but somehow it still feels formulaic.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Psychological war drama could be interesting.
Tripp Burton (TB): This looks very interesting, although I’m not sure it can sustain a full feature film.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It could be an interesting film, but two men trapped by a sniper behind a wall does not an action thriller make. If it delves into the psychology, it might be good or it might be boring.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This foreign film could be interesting, the trailer doesn’t present the face for it.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Israeli romantic comedy could be worth catching on home video.
Tripp Burton (TB): If this was in English, I wouldn’t give it the time of day.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It may be a charming look into one hasidic woman’s desire for a mate, or it may end up being just too cute to be watchable.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): One of the few releases this week that looks genuinely funny. It also looks very familiar, which might not bolster its potential.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): If this unofficial remake of the 1949 British classic is half as good as the original it will be worth catching.
Tripp Burton (TB): Remakes of Ealing comedies tend not to go too well (see The Ladykillers), but I’ve never seen the original and this looks entertaining.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It tries to be too cute by half, and it probably is not a better film than the 1949 Easling comedy. It probably is worth seeing at home on DVD, but not worth the price of a theater admission.
