As is our tradition here at Cinema Sight, we have put our heads together (separately, of course) and made the absolute earliest predictions we’re ever willing to make. With just over 6 months until the first precursors are announced, we look at where we think the race stands before Cannes has a chance to wow or disappoint.

What we have guessed below is likely to change a lot between now and November. Some releases will get pushed back, others will suddenly appear, picked up from the festival circuit. We make no guarantees that these selections will make it throug and, as you can see, we don’t even agree on what or who the top contenders are. We present six categories below and among them, only two predictions are shared by all four of our participants. Neither of these, Paul Thomas Anderon’s latest Inherent Vice or Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken, have even been seen. If things didn’t change between now and year-end, it would be an awfully boring Oscar season.

As I mentioned in the paragraph above, we have four contributors this year. Our regular contributors, Peter, Tripp and I, are joined by 2013 Oscar Prediction contest winner Thomas LaTourrette. You’ve already seen his first comments appearing in our Looking at the Weekend posts, but here are his first Oscar predictions of the new year. We welcome him to the circuit and hope to see how his thoughts stack up against ours.
