Trailer Watch: The Lone Ranger

Johnny Depp doesn’t look as awful as I initially imagined…I’m still reserving judgement on the movie.

The Lone Ranger

Plot Summary: As the wealthy begin exploiting the west and outlaws rob trains at their leisure, one man and his Native American sidekick don masks to protect the weak and innocent from all who would abuse them.
Release Date: July 3, 2013

Rating: B-
Commentary: Faded paint with a simple image of a faded visage seems a bit antiquated and perhaps too lethargic to be of interest, but it’s a visually engaging design either way.
Rating: B-
Commentary: Treated to a lot of director Gore Verbinski’s action set pieces, the impressive elements of the film are its production design and cinematography, which are quite stunning. It looks mostly like cheap theatrics, but it will certainly please the most hestiant cinemagoer even if not mentally.

Oscar Chances: Art Direction, Costume Designa and Makeup are strong possibilities with Cinematography, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing and Visual Effects weaker, but nevertheless possible.
