There have been a lot of classic novels adapted to the big screen, but newer books are making successful transitions as well. What are your favorite adaptations of modern literature?

If the “modern” era begins with the 60s then:

To Kill a Mockingbird
In Cold Blood
All the President’s Men
The Exorcist
Zodiac

I’m pigeonholing myself by listing only those films where I have read the book as well as seen the movie. Since my choice of reading material is mostly mystery thrillers and sorely lacking in Pulitzer Prize territory, there aren’t many to choose from:

The Godfather
To Kill a Mockingbird
The Silence of the Lambs
A Clockwork Orange
The Shawshank Redemption
