We close out our quiet week with new trailers for And Everything Is Going Fine, Battle: Los Angeles and Hop as well as new posters for The King’s Speech and Sanctum.

AND EVERYTHING IS GOING FINE

Plot Summary: A documentary about the life of Spalding Gray in his own words through archived interviews and recorded performances.
Release Date: December 10, 2010

Trailer

Poster

Rating: B
Commentary: The main reason to see this film is to hear all of the interesting and clever things Spalding Gray has to say. If the picture quality isn’t what you hope for, then you’ve never really been able to admire documentary filmmaking.
Rating: C
Commentary: Not sure what the point of the poster is. Unless you recognize the individual on the poster, it will not only mean little to you, but you’ll also wonder what this poster’s doing in your local cineplex.

Oscar Chances: It isn’t on the Oscar short list, so it’s not going to compete.

BATTLE: LOS ANGELES, trailer #2

Plot Summary: Various UFO sightings throughout history have led to an invasion of the third kind.
Release Date: March 11, 2011

Trailer

Poster

Rating: B-
Commentary: It’s mostly a re-tread of the first trailer, but it still does an effective job of teasing the film for audiences who want to see an full-fledged alien invasion film.

HOP

Plot Summary: A mixture of live action and animation, the story involves a live action man named Fred who accidentally injures the animated Easter Bunny and must take him into his home while he recovers and learn lessons about growing up.
Release Date: April 1, 2011

Trailer

Poster

Rating: D-
Commentary: Other than the cheese-tastic tagline, there is absolutely no correlation between what is presented in this trailer and what we so far know about the film. It’s not that famous a song, it doesn’t reference the live action elements and there’s nothing funny or engaging about this teaser.
Rating: B-
Commentary: Until I saw the second poster, I thought this was a decent incarnation highlighting the lead animated character with a row of chocolate contemporaries.
Rating: C+
Commentary: However, looking at the second poster, I wonder just how much money Universal spent on advertising assets because the only thing that’s different about this poster is the surrounding elements. The Easter Bunny’s and the chick’s poses are identical in each poster.

Oscar Chances: Live action/animation cross-overs aren’t loved by the Academy, so don’t expect much.

SANCTUM, poster #2

Plot Summary: A group of cave explorers find themselves trapped as a massive storm threatens to flood the cave.
Release Date: February 4, 2011

Trailer

Poster

Previous Preview:
Sanctum
Rating: B-
Commentary: It’s more inventive than the first poster and I have always loved these colors in combination, but it’s still not quite the advertising tool I prefer to see.

THE KING’S SPEECH, Poster #2

Plot Summary: When his brother abdicates the throne, King George the VI must overcome his stammering problem to become a vocal and effective leader.
Release Date: November 26, 2010

Trailer

Poster

Previous Preview:
The King’s Speech
Rating: C-
Commentary: Trying to be a bit more stylish than the first poster still results in a failure for the producers of The King’s Speech. The only thing this poster is good for is symbolizing what people who are familiar with the film’s plot already know: the title has a double meaning about his actual speech and about a speech he has to give. And that’s about it. Not worth much, really.
