1. Which of the two new wide releases would you choose to recommend above the others?
With such selections, it’s hard to build up any excitement, but of the two, I have to go with Chronicles of Narnia.
2. Which of the four new limited releases would you choose to recommend above the others?
Chief among the reasons is that it’s a major Oscar player, but The Fighter would be my recommendation.

1. Which of the two new wide releases would you choose to recommend above the others?
As usual, it depends on your personal taste, but having spent a little time in Venice recently, where The Tourist was filmed, I’d like to see that for comparison notes.
2. Which of the four new limited releases would you choose to recommend above the others?
The Fighter is one of this year’s must-see films, with all four of its stars mentioned as potential Oscar nominees.

1. Which of the two new wide releases would you choose to recommend above the others?
The Tourist looks like it could be a solid, yet forgettable, action thriller; if you liked the other Narnia films, that this should be just as good as those were.
2. Which of the four new limited releases would you choose to recommend above the others?
The Tempest looks the most interesting, The Fighter is getting the most buzz, The Company Men has the best ensemble.

1. Which of the two new wide releases would you choose to recommend above the others?
“The Tourist” because it appears to be an entertaining political thriller and a terrific showcase for two of today’s best actors. It also doesn’t hurt that the director, Florian Henckle von Donnersmark, directed one of the most critically acclaimed films of the last decade (“The Lives of Others”).
2. Which of the four new limited releases would you choose to recommend above the others?
“The Fighter” because it has a terrific cast and also happens to be the weekend’s primary Oscar contender.
