Three films release wide and with nothing holding over from the prior weekend of any genuine strength, we have a three-way race for number one. Hereditary probably has the weakest chances. Horror hasn’t done that well lately and while the buzz is solid, I doubt it can overcome the other two films releasing. Hotel Artemis came out of nowhere and has presented a rather exciting trailer, which gives it plenty of chance to outdo expectations. I suspect it might end up fading fast, but it could have an explosive debut. Yet, I doubt it will top the all-female Ocean’s 8, which stars three of the most popular actresses working in film today plus a bountiful batch of other women who have solid fan bases. I have little doubt that Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and Anne Hathaway will take the top spot and I am not so sure that it will even be close.

Wesley Lovell (WL): My primary interest in this film is through the excellent word of mouth. Peter J. Patrick (PP): With Toni Collette heading a strong cast this is one horror film I’d actually like to see. Thomas LaTourette (TL): This looks like a very bad horror film. Wesley Lovell (WL): It probably isn’t that good, but it looks like it will be quite fun. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Jodie Foster looks good as what could be the little girl who lives down the lane forty years on. Thomas LaTourette (TL): A decent cast looks wasted in this violent film.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): Nothing about this film seems more than commonplace, but it has its appealing elements. Peter J. Patrick (PP): OK looking low-budget comedy with music could be a pleasant time-killer. Thomas LaTourette (TL): I am not sure about this comedy, might be a fun family centric one, or it might fall flat.
