The last weekend of the year (even if it’s only partially in 2010), is always limited in releases. This week, we only have two new films opening, both limited.

Consensus

Below is a list of what we have come to a general consensus on. The number in parens represents the percentage of our contributors who agree with the statement.

Another Year: We feel this is a must see film (67%) and that it’s also a major Oscar contender (100%).
Blue Valentine: We’re all going to see it and we mostly believe it’s a must see (67%) but we agree across the board that this is a major contender (100%).

Thoughts

I generally like Mike Leigh films, but this one doesn’t look nearly as interesting as his past ones.

Thoughts

Lesley Manville’s performance has been talked about all year as an Oscar front-runner. She hasn’t done too well so far, but things could change if it’s a hit.

Thoughts

Mike Leigh’s films are usually a must-see in my book, and one with this much strong buzz is a must-see.

Thoughts

The trailer’s not that great, but with all the hoopla over its rating and the fact that it’s getting strong reviews, I am interested in checking it out.

Thoughts

Has been receiving great notices for both Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams’ performances as a couple breaking up.

Thoughts

Not something I would normally rush out to see, but the word of mouth on it is ecstatic.
