Of the new releases, two films are clearly in line for the chart topper position. A Dog’s Way Home is the latest canine-centric drama that could take the box office by storm. Unfortunately, it comes up against Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart in the American remake of The Intouchables, which has all the makings of a number one film.

Wesley Lovell (WL): Everyone loves dogs, or at least should, and while the movie looks like claptrap, a cute dog is really all you need. Peter J. Patrick (PP): It may be a cute dog story, but if you’ve seen the trailer, you’ve seen the film. Thomas LaTourette (TL): It looks a little too treacly for me, especially as one knows how it will end.

Wesley Lovell (WL): While some have celebrated Keanu Reeves’ late career choices, I can’t say anything he’s done has looked that enticing. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Sci-fi thriller with an unusual premise looks like it goes off the rails fairly quickly. Thomas LaTourette (TL): This feels like one of the weaker entries into the artificial intelligence genre.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): This remake of the French film doesn’t look terrible, but it also doesn’t look like something to rush out and see. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Comedy about an ex-con and a billionaire seems to tread familiar odd couple territory. Thomas LaTourette (TL): The French film this was based on, The Intouchables, was very good and this just looks like a poor imitation of it.

Wesley Lovell (WL): Conceptually, it sounds so interesting. The trailer isn’t great, but it could be worth checking out. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Tedious looking Italian comedy. Thomas LaTourette (TL): It looks like it could be an entertaining look at how reliant we have become on our devices and how much we guard our privacy.

Wesley Lovell (WL): This looks like painfully cheap patriotic entertainment. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Another troubled Iraq war veteran drama which doesn’t seem to offer anything new. Thomas LaTourette (TL): This looks earnest and just not terribly interesting.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): A cheap-looking trailer doesn’t look like something worth catching. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Barry Van Dyke still looks good at 67, but does anybody really care? Thomas LaTourette (TL): Another semisweet story of starting over again with a cast that has charisma but a story we all have seen way too many times.
