With two wide releases this weekend, we finally have some competition. After the superb debut of Bad Boys for Life last weekend, The Gentlemen and The Turning will battle it out for number with the former having better options. The Gentlemen has a lot of well known actors and a popular director to give it a boost at the box office. The latter has no one famous and will have to rely on the premise to pull in audiences. Gentlemen should win easily.

Wesley Lovell (WL): There’s just so much about this that feels like it’s missing the point and I’m not sure what it is. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like a fun British comedy with Hugh Grant and Colin Farrell getting most of the kudos. Thomas LaTourette (TL): There were few redeeming features in the trailer and it looks like lots of senseless violence. I will pass.

Wesley Lovell (WL): It looks like a formulaic creepy kids film and I’ve seen too many of those. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Latest take on Henry James’ Turn of the Screw will have to go a ways to match 1961’s The Innocents. Thomas LaTourette (TL): There are many versions of this tale, and this does not look to be one of the better ones.

Wesley Lovell (WL): H.P. Lovecraft is a weird writer and this looks to live up to that expectation even if it looks rather unappealing. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Richard Stanley’s first film in 25 years doesn’t look good. Having Nicolas Cage as his star does’nt help. Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer does not make the most sense, but it looks fairly interesting in a full B-movie type of way, so might be worth seeing.
