   even if it was only 90 % anti-Disney…..that doesn´t change a lot.
   When the nominees were announced my first thinking was, there is something wrong. I didn´t know about that problems. already with the nominations they shamelessly punished the makers of toy story and tangled for that dispute between Disney and the organization. it is more than obvious. 3 noms for Toy Story???? thank god they didn´t let Megamind win ….at least.

   The best animated film of 2010 was Tangled, in my opinion. One can only wonder how well that film (and [i]Toy Story 3[/i] for that matter) would have fared in a contest not plagued by political fighting.

   While I would’ve LOVED to have seen an award or two go to Mamoru Hosoda’s ‘Summer Wars,’ I cannot fault the praise being heaped upon ‘How To Train Your Dragon.’ Sanders and DeBlois have crafted what I believe will be a classic film, full of beauty, humor and humanity. I’ve already seen it a number of times, and it literally gets better with each viewing. (And I absolutely ADORED it the first time!) To follow up the wonderful, whimsical and woefully underrated ‘Lilo & Stitch’ with an equally impressive film is an amazing achievement. I know it’s selfish to say this, but I sorta wish they’d forgo their solo projects and work together forever. They have the potential to become the Lennon & McCartney of cartoons!

   Congratulations Wesley for your perfect prediction

   I agree with you, How to train your dragon is a great animated movie, maybe the best of the year.

   But Toy Story 3 is still going to win the oscar because of the nostalgia factor.

   I still complaint about nominating for best movie a film in the best animated o best foreign film category. It’s too obvious it’s going to win in their lesser category. It’s always been that way

   Z (1969)
   Cries and Whispers (1973)
   Life is Beautiful (1998)
   Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000)
   Up (2009)
   and now Toy Story 3 (2010)

   The only time this rule didn’t apply was to The Emigrants (1971), it was nominated for best foreign film in 1972, didn’t win and next year was honored with 5 nominations including best picture but won none.

   And I’l Postino wasn’t nominated for best foreign film, I don’t know if Italy submitted the film or another

   It’s obvious not enough academy voters watched the film the previous year.

      Oh. I don’t think Dragon was the best of the year. I liked it, sure, but Toy Story 3 was undeniably the better film.

         @ wesley: absolutely. Toy Story 3 was the strongest animated film of the year and in my Top 5 of the best films 2011. I really liked How to train your Dragon. But how can anyone take the Annie Awards serious? If there are problems with Disney or not….in the end they should honor the person and achievement behind the film. And when a film is winning dozens of prizes because of political disagreements , I think it´s more embarrassing for the “winner” rather than an honor.

            Before the political disagreements, though, Kung Fu Panda trounced WALL-E two years ago, so I think Dragon would have won even without the Disney boycott. DreamWorks and Disney have the largest bases of members within this organization, so it’s little surprise that DreamWorks managed to win every category it was nominated in. And since Pixar won in Animated Short Film, you can’t just assume that it was entirely anti-Disney/Pixar sentiment.
