Tenet shouldn’t have anything to worry about from this weekend’s lone new wide release. The Broken Hearts Gallery may be the first romantic comedy to release wide at re-opened cinemas, but the film doesn’t seem like the kind that can translate into big box office.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): The appealing leads take some of the blandness of the trailer, which means the film could work better than the preview suggests. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Light romantic comedy could be diverting but is not likely to attract big audiences in the pandemic. Thomas LaTourette (TL): It looks cute and might even be better than that, though I doubt that. Still, cute is better than nothing right now.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer says that it’s something different, but nothing in it makes it feel genuinely original. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Thai thriller with a social message seems worth a look. Thomas LaTourette (TL): This should be feel timely and gripping, yet the trailer does not succeed in making this seem that good.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): A docudrama about Helen Reddy could be interesting, but the trailer looks hopelessly meager. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like a cheap TV movie with a Helen Reddy imitator instead of the real thing. Thomas LaTourette (TL): This will probably be lost in the shuffle by the time that Oscars are being considered, but it feels like a better than average biopic about someone we all know but actually know little about.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): An original concept that doesn’t sufficiently work for me. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Bizarre thriller set in what seems like a long ago 1990. Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer did not succeed in being creepy or entertaining, so I have a feeling that the film is one to miss.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): It looks a lot better than the trailer fully suggests. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like a film about pretty people making a movie with no rhyme or reason. Thomas LaTourette (TL): A psychotherapist gets involved in the life of her patient, but the trailer does not make any of the characters that interesting.
