This weekend, three of the last four guilds to announce winners will finally make their picks known. Starting things off on Saturday are the Cinema Audio Society, which honors the best in Sound Mixing, and the American Cinema Editors, which recognize the best in Editing. Following those on Sunday are the awards from the Motion Picture Sound Editors, the Golden Reel Awards for the best in sound effects and sound editing. Here are our predictions for this weekend. They may forecast minor tech categories, but every little bit helps.

CINEMA AUDIO SOCIETY

Best Sound Mixing

Black Swan (RU:Wesley)
Inception (Wesley, Peter, Wes)
Shutter Island (RU:Peter)
The Social Network
True Grit

Wesley Lovell: It’s hard to imagine this group going for anything but Inception. It’s the only real action-based film in this lot and, other than Shutter Island, the sound is relatively subdued in the other nominees.

AMERICAN CINEMA EDITORS

Best Editing, Drama>

Black Swan
The Fighter
Inception (Wesley)
The King’s Speech (RU:Peter)
The Social Network (RU:Wesley, Peter, Wes)

Wesley Lovell: Just like The Matrix before it, I believe that this award will go to Inception despite its lack of Oscar nomination.

Best Editing, Comedy/Musical

Alice in Wonderland
Easy A
The Kids Are All Right (RU:Wesley, RU:Peter)
Made in Dagenham
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (Wesley, Peter)

Wesley Lovell: The most editing usually wins and with no true musicals in the bunch, Scott Pilgrim would be my guess, but Comedy/Musical’s hard to predict quite frequently.

Best Editing, Animated

Despicable Me
How to Train Your Dragon (RU:Wesley, RU:Peter)
Toy Story 3 (Wesley, Peter)

Wesley Lovell: Have to go with the most popular nominee of the bunch, but it’s quite possible that the more action oriented How to Train Your Dragon could dominate.

MOTION PICTURE SOUND EDITORS

Best Sound Editing: Dialogue and ADR in a Feature Film

Black Swan
Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 1
Inception (RU:Wesley)
The Kids Are All Right
The King’s Speech
The Social Network (Wesley, Peter)
Tron: Legacy
True Grit

Wesley Lovell: This award goes to the best dialogue and automated dialogue replacement. This isn’t your traditional sound effects category that the Oscars are so fond of recognizing, so with its rapid-fire dialogue and requirement to have actors faces superimposed on other bodies and match dialogue correctly, The Social Network should be an easy winner.

Best Sound Editing: Sound Effects and Foley in a Feature Film

127 Hours
Black Swan
Inception (Wesley, Peter)
True Grit
Iron Man 2
Salt
Tron: Legacy (RU:Wesley)
Unstoppable

Wesley Lovell: This is what Oscar likes to replace, which should make Inception the default/deserving winner.

Best Sound Editing: Sound Effects, Foley, Dialogue and ADR in a Feature Foreign Language Film

Biutiful
Lebanon
Micmacs
Mother
North Face
The Girl Who Played With Fire (RU:Wesley)
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (Wesley, Peter)

Wesley Lovell: Since this category blends the above two categories into one for foreign language entries, I’m going with the film with the most potential to hit all the high marks: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Best Sound Editing: Sound Effects, Foley, Dialogue, ADR and Music in an Animation Feature Film

Despicable Me
How To Train Your Dragon (RU:Wesley)
Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole
Tangled
The Illusionist
Toy Story 3 (Wesley, Peter)

Wesley Lovell: Another catch-all category that will probably head to Pixar with its masterful sound editing.

Best Sound Editing: Sound Effects, Foley, Dialogue, and ADR Music in a Feature Documentary

Babies
Catfish
Exit Through The Gift Shop
Inside Job (RU:Wesley)
Restrepo (Wesley, Peter)
Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage
Waiting for Superman

Wesley Lovell: For documentary, Restrepo is the one set in the most sound-heavy environment, so should have little problem winning.

Best Sound Editing: Music in a Feature Film

Alice in Wonderland
Black Swan
Get Low
Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 1
Inception (Wesley)
Let Me In
The Losers
The Social Network (RU:Wesley, Peter)

Wesley Lovell: Inception’s music is a far more integral part of the film than these other nominees, which suggests it should win here. However, never underestimate the more subdued music editing in Social Network.

Best Sound Editing: Music in a Musical Feature Film

Burlesque (Wesley)
Country Strong (RU:Wesley)
Step Up 3D
Tangled (Peter)

Wesley Lovell: For musicals, Burlesque has the most complex musical arrangements and should be able to trump the other nominees.
