Two films hope to take The Croods‘ crown in the final weekend before Christmas. Monster Hunter had been poised for a New Year’s release, but got pulled back to this weekend for what reason, who knows. Opposite Fatale, which was booted further down the release calendar once before, the likelihood of either doing incredibly well is small. Ultimately, Monster Hunter is more likely to draw an audience and likely to be the top new release.

Wesley Lovell (WL): Neo-noirs were once a high quality rarity, but now there are any number of them and your mileage may vary on which are good and which aren’t. This could be on the better end. Peter J. Patrick (PP):Fatal Attraction-style thriller looks lame. Thomas LaTourette (TL): It might be a decent thriller, though it looks like a lot of others that have been out there of a woman bent on revenge.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): It has almost become certain that anything starring Milla Jovovich is bound to be terrible. That’s the consensus based on the numerous failures she’s appeared in over the years. This doesn’t look much better. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Dumb looking actioner based on a video game holds no interest for me. Thomas LaTourette (TL): The US military versus monsters from another dimension. This looks incredibly stupid.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): An unfortunate title and a trailer that’s not terribly impressive. Peter J. Patrick (PP): So-so horror film at least looks to be heavier on suspense than gore. Thomas LaTourette (TL): Either a serial killer or a wolf is stalking the woods, but I just am not that interested in finding out which.

Wesley Lovell (WL): It might be funny, but the trailer has few laughs. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Minor comedy could be a pleasant time killer. Thomas LaTourette (TL): Alicia Silverstone deserves another good movie, but this laugh-lacking comedy is not it.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): I haven’t seen the prior two films, so I have no built up interest in the third. Peter J. Patrick (PP): The trailer for this third film in a trilogy I’ve never heard of doesn’t look like I’ve missed much. Thomas LaTourette (TL): I have not heard of nor seen the two previous films of this trilogy, and the trailer really does little to make me want to see this one.
