Poster Rating: C

Review: The black-and-white aspect is the most appealing. Simply having the key interview subject on the poster stripped to the waste so you can see his tattoos is deceptive. The crashing surf in the background is the only real glimpse the poster has of its relative subject.

Trailer Rating: C-

Review: The narrator of this trailer, quite obviously not Russell Crowe, makes the film sound like some sleezy, direct-to-DVD soap. Why there are an increasing number of documentaries on surfers and their impetus for doing so is becoming less clear. That this seems to focus on the dangerous elements of “social” groups only muddies the waters of interest.

Oscar Prospects:

The Documentary Feature category rarely ever picks up docs like this. They are informative, but hardly quintessential or political. That a movie is to be based on the story might make it more appealing, I doubt it will make much of a dent.
