It’s almost like the Summer has already begun. Even though the official start of the box office season begins next week, the fifth installment of the Fast & Furious series hits theaters this weekend likely to pull in big numbers against less hyped and less recognizable titles.

Consensus

Below is a list of what we have come to a general consensus on. The number in parens represents the percentage of our contributors who agree with the statement.

Dylan Dog: This is the kind of schlock that makes us want to stay away from the theater (100%), which is a statement Oscar can agree with (100%).
Fast Five: We’re still wondering when this franchise will crash (100%), not that the Oscars care (100%).
Hoodwinked Too!: It’s not a film that many seem to want to endure (67%) and since the original failed to get an Oscar nomination, the sequel will Too (100%).
Prom: Nothing more than a ploy to wring money out of young high school girls (100%), but the Oscars can’t be bought…at least not by this kind of movie (100%).
Cave of Forgotten Dreams: We agree to see it, just not all at the same time (67%); but we can agree that this will be a guaranteed Oscar contender (100%).

This looks so cheap that I can’t bring myself to want to see it.

Thoughts

Comedy, horror and mystery can be a potent mix, but this one looks like it does a disservice to all three genres.

This looks like a horrible TV series dragged out into a horrible movie

I have managed to avoid the first four films, so I see no reason to continue my franchise of ignoring them.

Thoughts

This one is apt to give me a bad case of sequel-itis.

Thoughts

Do people really want to see more of these?

The first film was a pleasant surprise, but the trailer for the second film makes this look like an ill-conceived notion. I will probably still end up seeing it, but I’m not optimistic.

Thoughts

What’s the market for this stuff? Three- and four-year-olds?

Thoughts

I had to look up “Hoodwinked” because I never remember that movie existing. That is never a good sign for a sequel.

Teen dramas tend towards the rote, which makes them an instant “no” on my watch list.

Thoughts

I’d rather stay home and watch a re-run of Glee.

Thoughts

There are a couple promising young actors in the film, but they aren’t promising enough to carry this dribble.

I love caves and while I’m not sure I want to see the documentary itself, the cave photography does look quite pleasing, so it may end up in my queue eventually.

Thoughts

Werner Herzog documentaries are always intriguing, but I can wait for home video for this one.

Thoughts

The new Herzog film is always a must see, and this looks like one of his more intriguing documentaries in a while.
