Review: (#1, B-) Harkening back to the first film, this design is a bit too simple (with oppressive red or black backgrounds) but it’s stylish enough to be captivating, especially looking at the Egyptian backdrop.
(#2-#10, C+) This series of character posters has a lot of bland, empty space but they also have some solid details and unique color schemes that help them feel individual yet thematic. (#11, B-) The use of the 2 as a background aesthetic is well handled though a bit too drab. The background details are minimal but the character pairings are well handled. In the end, a solid effort.
(#12-#13, C) Film scenes put into poster form aren’t just for live-action films and they aren’t any more interesting in animated form. (#14, C) Same as previous but used for a format-specific design. (#15, B-) Borrowing from a prior design, the effort is at least interesting to look at even if derivative. (#16, C) And lastly we’re back to the film scene effort, which remains just as lackluster.
Trailer Rating: C / C / B+

Review: (#1, C) There are some mildly diverting and amusing moments in the trailer but fans of the first film aren’t going to be sold on this. The first film struggled as well with its first trailer, so it’s possible the studio just doesn’t know how to effectively sell a movie like this. Some fans will be on board even without seeing the trailer.
(#2, C) It doesn’t look like there have been any changes to the trailer since it was first released. Perhaps some tweaks? However, the same problem persists. There isn’t enough humor to sell the movie to any but the most devoted fans. It still feels a bit derivative and that’s not a selling point.
(#3, B+) With two tepid trailers already out, there’s not much worth anticipating but this new trailer is hilarious and interesting in the best ways possible. For fans of the first film, this is how you get them energized about a sequel.
Oscar Prospects:
None.
