With no new wide releases, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 should be able to take the top spot for a third week, though holdovers like Wicked, Part I could make a surprise jump with its strong holdover so far.

Wesley Lovell: The first weekend of a new year always brings some of the worst and least interesting productions. This weekend will be no different.

Peter J. Patrick: Both of these which are set in the 19th Century look like better than average horror films.
