It will be a tough week to come out on top, especially given the tremendous debut of A Minecraft Movie. However, I don’t think any of the three new releases will make it. They all have the potential to be the top new release and I find it difficult to pick one but Drop will have horror/thriller fans enticed while Warfare will appeal to war film enthusiasts, and The Amateur will play well with male audiences. Since I think the latter two are chasing the same demographic, Drop might well eke out a victory among the three.

Wesley Lovell: Nothing for me to see here.

Pete Patrick: This actioner actually looks good.

Thomas La Tourrette: This thriller looks enjoyable though they seem to have given an awful lot away in the trailer.

Drop

Wesley Lovell: It’s an interesting concept for a horror film so it could be worth my time.

Pete Patrick: Frenetic thriller looks dumb.

Thomas La Tourrette: A far fetched thriller, but it might prove interesting.

Warfare

Wesley Lovell: I have no interest in war films.

Pete Patrick: Alex Garland’s Iraq War movie could go either way.

Thomas La Tourrette: Despite early good reviews the film does not look that interesting though it probably captures the feeling of being in battle.

The Limited Slate

Wesley Lovell: Not a lot of great options this week.

Pete Patrick: That They May Face the Rising Sun looks like a little Irish gem.  None of the others elicit ay interest from me. 

Thomas La Tourrette: Gunslingers is a hard no, a movie that just looks bad. The others have possibilities but do not show enough in their trailers to spark true interest.
