Review: (#1, C) A faint reminiscence of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, this design lacks the level of detail and intrigue that would make it a compelling design. (#2, B) While this has the same umbrella-wielding figures, adding the infinite door concept with various poses draws on the film’s premise successfully even if the entire design feels too regimented with cheap perfection. (#3, C) Back to the original design with an added background detail that doesn’t embellish or enhance the design successfully.

Trailer Rating: A / B-

Review: (#1, A) When you have a theme that you would want to limit exposure to while generating enthusiasm for, this is how you handle it. There’s dramatic tension, comedy, and fantastical elements. The story isn’t completely laid out before the audience but is given to them in enough detail to make it all feel exciting. The Life of Chuck trailer makers should study this one for how to make a truly compelling trailer.

(#2, B-) It was inevitable that a good trailer should be followed by a lackluster one and that’s what this is. The narrative is still given to the audience but the romantic tension, the humor, and the heart seem notably absent.

Oscar Prospects:

This looks like the kind of prestige pic that, when executed correctly, becomes a huge Oscar hit.
