Review: (#1, C+) The mask will appeal to those who enjoyed the first film. The snow will tie the film into its new setting. It’s not a particularly rich or detailed work but it does mostly what it needs to.
(#2, C+) Although it’s poorly edited, the focus being on the background figure (who doesn’t quite look like he’s peaking into the booth, gives it a somewhat natural look and gets across the simple point of telling audiences that were fans of the original they should expect more of the same but in a snowy clime.
(#3, C) More of the same rime-covered mask with empty background.
(#4, C+) Not much better than the prior designs but at least it doesn’t feel like space is wasted. That doesn’t make it appealing, it’s still utterly rudimentary and lacking in creative energy.
Trailer Rating: C+ / B- / B-

Review: (#1, C+) The original film’s concept was interesting and while I’m not sure that translates well into the sequel, there are some interesting visual elements in the trailer that either might feel too derivative (of The Shining in particular) or might not quite have the appeal the filmmakers were hoping for.
(#2, B-) A surprisingly detail-heavy trailer design with lots of scenes from the film highlighting both its connection to the past and its envisioning of the future. The problem is that it looks a lot more like a Nightmare on Elm Street knock off than the first film looked like a Stephen King adaptation, which was the more appealing prospect.
(#3, B-) There’s not much new in this trailer than the prior and it remains an interesting affair even if it feels a little derivative at times. A lack of narrative details won’t improve its chances but it still does well at appealing to fans of the first film.
Oscar Prospects:
None.
