Review: (#1, C) Familiar and not particularly inventive, this design goes for the black-and-blue aesthetic of night with the red elements of blood. It goes for the titular “oak” concept of roots but without the tree that forms them. There’s not much detail in the picture except the predictable single lit window and the inexplicable foxlike critter with glowing eyes. It wants to be impressive but doesn’t know how to avoid copying better designs.

(#2-#6, C+) Taken as a quintet of designs, these posters create an unnerving scene. However, individually they don’t excite very much with their lack of background detail, their overexposed brightness, and their modestly horrific elements. (#7, C) While this is likely a part of the prior series, similar to the house in the middle of the field, this one stands out differently, though not in a good way. Reminiscent of an image of Laura Palmer for Twin Peaks, this VHS-quality image doesn’t doesn’t appeal.

Review: (#1, C) For those familiar with Silent Hill, this trailer will present very little unique flavor and the horror mystery at its core isn’t investing enough to be successful.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
