It seemed last weekend like The Smashing Machine would do well and it didn’t. This week’s three releases don’t seem like blockbusters either but I think the top box office will likely come down to Roofman with Channing Tatum or Tron: Ares, the third film in a semi-popular film series.

OTHER RELEASES

We are only looking at films that have had trailers released on Rotten Tomatoes’ trailer YouTube Channels. Below are some other films that are releasing this weekend that we haven’t considered.

Soul on Fire (Wide)
Beast of War (Limited)
The Oval Portrait (Limited)
Re-Election (Limited)
The Roughneck (Limited)

WIDE RELEASES
THE KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN ROOFMAN TRON: ARES

The Kiss of the Spider Woman

Wesley Lovell: Although the early reviews weren’t great, I’m still intrigued.

Pete Patrick: I have reservations, but it could be better than it looks in the clips I’ve seen so far.

Thomas La Tourrette: I am always up for movie musicals, but this is getting very mixed reviews. It is probably not another Chicago.

Roofman

Wesley Lovell: The premise sounded interesting but this doesn’t look very good.

Pete Patrick: Early reviews haven’t been good, but I like the director’s previous work, so I’ll probably catch this at some point.

Thomas La Tourrette: This looks like a fun true story adaptation, but not sure it will be that deep.

Tron: Ares

Wesley Lovell: This series has not really been that great and adding Jared Leto to the cast doesn’t increase my interest.

Pete Patrick: I loathed the original and haven’t watched any of the previous sequels, but this one has a strong cast, so maybe I’ll give it a go.

Thomas La Tourrette: Cool visuals and perhaps a too close to home story make this look interesting. Not sure what it has to do with the first two Tron movies though.

LIMITED RELEASES
100 METERS AFTER THE HUNT DEATHSTALKER A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE IF I HAD LEGS I’D KICK YOU

MR. K URCHIN

The Limited Slate

Wesley Lovell: Mr. K looks more interesting than it has any right to but the rest have varying degrees of interest.

Pete Patrick: 100 Meters, After the Hunt, A House of Dynamite, and If I Had Legs I’D Kick You are all high-profile films that I will probably see although I am not sure I will like any of them.  The other three I have no intention of seeing at all.

Thomas La Tourrette: After the Hunt was the most talked about but reviews are mixed. Urchin, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You and A House of Dynamite all have good reviews but non-inspiring trailers. Surprisingly, Mr. K looks to be the most promising as it looks truly original and bizarre.
