Review: (#1, C+) The first design approaches the big city aesthetic poorly, failing to build on its cheeky trailer. (#2, C+) The cheekiness of the first design is replaced with self-seriousness isn’t an improvement.

(#3, C) Having a cute dog on your poster, while appropriate, requires some measure of background detailing and design structure to look more than “cute.”

(#4, C+) Superhero pose with a bland backdrop, used frequently in the poster designs, doesn’t add much in the way of intrigue for viewers.

Trailer Rating: B / C / C+ / B-

Review: (#1, B) Handing the reins of the DC franchise over to James Gunn may have been a brilliant move. Although this trailer reminds favorably of Guardians of the Galaxy, it contains a certain irreverence that will be appealing to many who are sick of the self-serious Disney Marvel films of late.

(#2, C) It takes a moment from the first trailer and tries to add more moments that might engage the viewers but it still doesn’t give an idea of what the film’s actually about and without a rooting interest, it makes it difficult to engage would-be attendees.

(#3, C+) Some of the humor of the first trailer but a lot of tedium in this design, focusing almost entirely on a scene from the film that doesn’t tell us much about what we should expect to see.

(#4, B-) Unlike the prior trailers, this one gives plenty of attention to the plot itself, explaining what the viewer should anticipate and including a character that fans had been hoping to see more of. Unfortunately, the end result is something that looks a bit predictable in parts and underwhelming in others with most of the humor having far less impact than expected.

Oscar Prospects:

Could follow the same path as Guardians of the Galaxy in terms of its broad creative-category appeal.
