Review: (#1, C+) Thematically tying into the painting elements of the premise, this design is a bit vacant and while the painted elements are intriguing, it might not be enough to generate the curiosity needed to make the film successful.

Trailer Rating: B-

Review: (#1, B-) Set in the world of art forgery, two figures battle their wills in an effort to complete the unfinished work of a dead painting master. Ian McKellen as the old guard and Michaela Coel as the new establishes an interesting dynamic between someone who’s devoted his life to forgery and works on instinct with someone who brings a fresh, more educated eye. That dynamic plays out somewhat well in the trailer but there aren’t a lot of sparks that fly and that might make it all seem vaguely dull to modern audiences.

Oscar Prospects:

A late-career nomination for Ian McKellen is distantly possible.
